Our Approach to Eye Exams
Our dedicated team is committed to conducting thorough evaluations of your eyes and vision during every appointment. Our objective extends beyond updating your prescription—we aim to identify potential vision problems and early signs of eye diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration by monitoring your complete eye health.

When to Schedule Your Eye Exam
Regular visits to the eye doctor are essential at any age. The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends the following exam schedule:
- Adults (20–64): An eye exam at least every 2 years
- Seniors (65+): Annual eye exams
Depending on your individual risk factors for various vision problems and eye diseases, our optometrists may recommend a more specific, personalized exam schedule.
Why Do Regular Eye Exams Matter?
As we age, our eyes undergo natural changes, and certain age-related conditions—such as presbyopia and cataracts—can significantly impact vision.
Regular eye exams allow us to monitor these changes, keep your prescription up to date, and address any concerns you may have. Your vision is important to us, and we are dedicated to preserving your eye health and helping you achieve clearer vision.
What to Expect During Your Eye Exam
During your comprehensive eye exam, we will review your medical history and discuss any family history of eye diseases or vision issues. Our team will then perform a series of tests to evaluate the health of your eyes and determine your prescription. These tests include:
- Visual acuity testing to assess your ability to see at various distances.
- Refraction testing to identify the correct prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses.
- Ocular motility testing to evaluate the movement and alignment of your eyes.
- A slit-lamp exam to examine the front and back of your eye using a specialized microscope.
If we identify any signs of eye disease or vision-related conditions, we will collaborate with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that suits your lifestyle, budget, and vision needs.
Dilated Eye Exams for Detailed Assessments
We recommend and provide dilated eye exams to check for early signs of eye diseases, which may be easier to treat. Dilating your pupils helps us identify and diagnose conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
For your convenience, we suggest arranging transportation with friends or family after a dilated eye exam, as it may temporarily affect your near vision.
Schedule Your Eye Exam Today
Our informative, thorough, and personalized eye exams are designed to meet your unique needs. If you’re unsure when you last had an eye exam, you can take a proactive step to protect your vision by scheduling one today.
